Photography by Karna KurataAt the end of last year, Bay Area photographer Karna Kurata went on a one-month tour through Egypt. Starting in Lower Egypt, (the northern section—the Nile flows downhill into the Mediterranean), Karna made her way to Upper Egypt, taking pictures all the while. Specializing in documenting the culture and lives of indigenous people in lesser-known parts of the world, she has traveled throughout the Andes region in Peru, Europe, Japan, and among the hill tribes in Northern Thailand. She is especially concerned with preserving the cultural landscapes of societies that face gradual extinction from the forces of modernization. More
of her pictures are available at www.karnakurata.com.
