| InsideOut Travel magazine is a bimonthly online publication for independent travelers, from first-time backpackers to those who have made traveling a lifestyle—anyone who values the experience of traveling and learning about other cultures more than importing the luxuries of everyday life to a new location. Each issue will include: Travel Briefs and Tips Short travel news-related briefs and tips. This section may include interesting news and facts as well as book reviews. Just the Facts Is Cambodia safe enough to travel alone, or should you just fly to Vietnam directly? Ask us a question and we’ll give you the facts. Then, make up your mind. Destinations Each issue will include two destination articles. These articles may be from 1,500 to 2,000 words. Lingua Franca This section will include feature articles on how to teach a language abroad or learn one. A Traveler's Life An interview of a traveler—someone who has turned “on the road” into a lifestyle. Health Don't let the dark side of budget travel get you down. Local variants of Montezuma’s Revenge, immunization requirements, and women’s health will be addressed. When in Home Find ways to while away time until the next trip. You’ll find information on what to do about reverse culture shock, how to be a successful temp to save for your next trip, and ways to hone the skills that are in demand in other countries. English Spoken Here Destination articles in the countries of our Anglophone readership. Links Websites we like and that are useful to other travelers. |

Although we're not yet able to offer great rates, we don't believe that any writer should write for free so we're starting with $10-$20 USD for feature articles depending on length and our needs. Payment is within 30 days of publication and there is no kill fee. Writers are invited to send tips, briefs, and links. We'll print your name if we use your information. You can send detailed queries to: editor@insideoutmag.com. When sending us ideas, please keep these points in mind:
We're writing for the truly budget traveler. This doesn't mean there's
not a job or bank account somewhere, but whereas some people spend $500
USD for a week in Florida, most of our readers would rather make that
same amount last for a month, or two, in a place like Vietnam, Honduras,
India or Egypt. So, any idea that means more than $50 USD a day for the
traveler is out.
We trust that our readers know how to save money. So, although new deals
and tricks are always appreciated, articles on how to travel cheaply are
not what we're looking for.
The destination does not make the story. We’re interested in pieces
with a unique slant. Share an experience that is out of the ordinary,
one you could only have away from home, and use that angle to write about
the destination.
Our English Spoken Here section will focus on primarily Anglophone destinations—UK,
US, parts of Canada and other territories where English is the main language. Since
we are budget travelers ourselves and not in danger of becoming rich anytime
soon, we tend to look favorably on people who have more travel than writing
experience. We know our budget just can't adequately compensate some of
the more experienced writers (unless they want to do it for love!). Please send all writing samples as links or in the body of the e-mail—no attachments. Due to the volume of ideas we receive, we hope you understand that we won’t be able to get back to all of you but we appreciate your interest.
