The Unknown City Guides
Do you know where Johnny Depp made the transition from salesman to celebrity? What is The Garbage Palace? The new Unknown City Guides have the answers. Coming out this April are Toronto the Unknown City by Howard Akler and Sarah B. hood and Vancouver the Unknown City by John Mackie and Sarah Reeder.

Whether you’ve been to there a million times or you’re thinking about visiting for the first time soon, these guides will come in handy if you want an alternative to the usual walking tour of the city. And who knows, you could find that one little unknown fact that will help you win the next game of Trivial Pursuit.

Party in the Sky
Wouldn’t it be cool if being on an airplane could be more like hanging out with your friends at the pub? Well, starting this summer, when flying Backpackers Xpress, it will be exactly like that.

Backpackers Xpress is planning on buying two Boeing 747 aircrafts and launching the first long-haul budget airline with a fist-class cabin converted into a pub. Their planes will be all-economy class and will offer dance and karaoke competitions and private DVD players as in-flight entertainment. No chicken or beef here—pizza and beer is on the dinner menu.

If you’d rather listen than sing, there will also be talks on Australian wildlife and its indigenous culture by Aboriginal people.

Glenn Millen, the Australian businessman who plans to start the airline, said: "We are aiming to give our customers a decent, pre-destination education as well as a lot of fun."

The airline’s planned launch route is Manchester/Munich-Deli-Bangkok-Melbourne-Auckland/Christchurch. Open-ended return tickets from Manchester to Melbourne will go for approximately $1,290. more >>

Lock Up the Young
This sarcastic headline was found in the Bangkok Post recently in light of the new regulations taking place in the country. Starting March 1, the “social order” campaign that started three years ago, will tighten as bars, discos and night clubs will now have to close at midnight. On March 29th, anyone under 18, unless accompanied by parents, will have to be off the streets by 10 pm.

This month, the Interior Ministry announced a 100-fold increase in license fees that, if put into effect, is sure to put scores of restaurants, ballrooms, massage parlors and other entertainment places out of business. more >>
